Midrash is a characteristically Jewish way of reading and processing texts. In 7 sessions with Rabbi Emeritus George Barnard, we will learn about the main types of Midrash and important Midrash collections and read significant examples of Midrash, spanning 2,000 years.
About Rabbi Barnard:
George Barnard, Rabbi Emeritus of Northern Hills Synagogue, was born in Brookline, Massachusetts, and attended Harvard University, from which he graduated in 1969 with the degree of B.A. summa cum laude in philosophy. Afterward, he attended the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, studying Jewish philosophy in Jerusalem and earning his rabbinical degree in 1975. In 1982, he received the degree of M.Ed. from the University of Cincinnati, having completed studies in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and has served as an adjunct professor at Xavier University.
In 1975, Rabbi Barnard became the spiritual leader of Congregation B'nai Avraham - Northern Hills Synagogue and retired as the longest-serving Cincinnati Rabbi after 39 years of dedicated service to Northern Hills.
