7:00 PM - 8:00 PMNHS"While 92% of Americans say it's important to discuss their wishes for end-of-life care, only 32% have had such a conversation."
The Conversation Project guides us in starting those conversations, first with ourselves, then with our loved ones and our medical team.
In this seven-week course, we'll spend time removing the taboo of talking about death, we'll verbalize what we want for ourselves, and we'll gain skills on how to communicate with the people who will be responsible for our care, including completing our own Living Will with the guidance of a legal expert.
*Please fill out only one registration form for the entire series (not for each session individually)*
Class Schedule-
March 11 - Introduction to the Conversation Project. This will be a time for us to share our experiences with others who have passed and have or have not shared their wishes. We'll watch some videos from TCP, and get a feel for the rest of the 7 weeks.
March 25 - Filling out the Conversation Starter Guide together (I'll attach it below). We'll talk a lot about our values. This will probably be pages 1-7 of that packet. I'll also provide the workbook for people with a serious illness, and ask those with a serious illness to work on that instead.
April 1 - Having the talk. We'll go through scenarios of talking with our loved ones about our hopes (in the starter guide after page 8) and we'll start looking through the Guide for Talking with a Health Care Team and the How to Talk to Your Doctor packet.
April 8 - What's Jewish about talking about death. We'll read some poetry, study some Talmud, and give the Jewish context for everything we've discussed previously
April 15 - Having the conversation with your chosen healthcare proxy. We'll talk about how to choose the right person, how to start the conversation with them, and how to share your wishes. We'll also work on the Advanced Care Planning checklist.
April 22 - Completing the Ohio Advance Directive together. With the help of a legal expert (probably Bill Freedman), we will go through the document and fill it out together, learning about the fine print and then how to store/hand over the document to the right people.
April 29 - This is a flex day. If we need more time to talk about any of the previous topics, we will do that today.
